Members of all ages must agree to Passport's Value Statement:

Passport to Learning is a secular progressive homeschool cooperative dedicated to creating an educational community that advances the ideals of social justice, celebrates LGBTQIA+ identities, establishes a safe and welcoming environment for neurodivergent learners and their adults, ensures the rights and dignity of transgender/nonbinary/gender-nonconforming people, and promotes scientific and historical literacy and critical thinking. We welcome all faith traditions, but expect Passport members to uphold and champion our core values through their class content, their interactions with other members of the organization, and by modeling these values for our children.

Racial Justice and Equity: We affirm that Black lives matter and are committed to supporting racial justice. We advocate for policies that repair historic and current injustices. We celebrate all family backgrounds and heritages, and believe that a cooperative rich in diversity strengthens our communities and enhances our children’s education.

LGBTQIA+ Rights: We believe that love, gender, and identity are diverse and beautiful. We work to ensure equal rights, representation, and safety for all LGBTQIA+ individuals, both within our organization and in the broader community.

Transgender, Nonbinary, and Genderfluid/Non-Conforming Protections: We stand unequivocally with transgender and non-binary individuals. We affirm their right to self-identify, access gender-affirming care, and live free from violence, discrimination, or erasure. We support our members in exploring their identities and using the pronouns and bathrooms that best fit their individual expression.

Safety for All Bodies and Neurotypes: We welcome and celebrate nontraditional learners including but not limited to members of the autistic, ADHD, learning-disabled, intellectually disabled, or physically disabled communities. We champion solutions, accommodations, and valuing the perspectives different neurotypes and physicalities bring to our community. We will do our very best to accommodate different types of learners.

Educational Literacy: We promote scientific literacy and support the teaching of evolution as a foundational scientific theory. We reject pseudoscience and ideologies that deny evidence-based knowledge. We promote historical literacy and champion the critical need for diverse representation in providing students with a fuller understanding of humanity.

The safety and comfort of our membership body is of paramount importance. To maintain the safety of our space, membership shall be open to those who champion these values and contingent upon upholding the values of this charter during all Passport activities and in all interactions with our communities.

Teaching Expectations:

Due to the cooperative nature of Passport to Learning, a parent from each family must assist with teaching responsibilities. Each family is expected to:

Teach one class or co-teach at least two classes if the family is registered for two or more classes

Teach or co-teach one class if the family is registered for one class

Co-teachers are expected to be at the co-op and participate actively during classes, assisting students who need extra help and with classroom discipline.  They may also be expected to gather supplies and prepare class activities. In the event that the primary teacher is absent, the co-teacher is responsible for teaching the class.

Teachers and co-teachers must be on time!

Members will be called upon to substitute for other teachers in the event of planned or unplanned absences. We require that parents substitute twice a semester; we may ask for more in heavy flu or cold seasons. Please try to volunteer often to balance out if you are out often!

Teachers need to arrange for a substitute if they will be absent for any reason. In most instances, the designated co-teacher should be able to cover the class as head teacher, but all instructors must find a replacement.

There should be two adults in the room. However, if there are many absences, we may devise creative solutions, like moving classes to the sanctuary or having a floating co-teacher.

Teachers should label any remaining items past one period with the teacher's name and class.

Student Expectations:

Be on time and prepared for class with a backpack and supplies: writing implements, crayons or colored pencils, school scissors, and glue sticks.

Students must be respectful in classes. If a child disrupts a class session, they will be removed from the class and returned to their parent. Continued disruptive behavior may result in dismissal from the class or the co-op.

Complete class requirements and cooperate with teachers at all times. Due to the nature of once-a-week classes, it is imperative that students stay current with their assignments.

Students are also responsible for class material missed during absences. The student or parent must contact the teachers to learn about any missed material.  Students not adhering to class or assignment guidelines may be asked to leave the class.

Running and yelling in the hallways, classrooms, or the sanctuary is prohibited.

Respect each person’s personal space and keep your hands and feet to yourself.  Unwanted touching, aggressive or otherwise, will not be tolerated. Rough gameplay, including improvised weapons or games designed to cause harm, is unacceptable.

Be respectful of the church facility. We are here at the church’s discretion.  Destructive behavior toward church facilities may result in removal from the  co-op. Students are not allowed in the music or AV areas of the sanctuary, the church library, or the church offices.

Students must be supervised by a parent at all times, whether inside or outside the co-op buildings. This includes teenagers!

Students are expected to encourage and support one another in a gracious and loving environment. No name-calling, bullying, or destructive comments toward each other will be tolerated.

We encourage our members to wear what is comfortable to them. While we support everyone’s right to self-expression, we are an inclusive all-ages co-op that requires members to be mindful of others. Clothing with profane or explicit content is not permitted. Please make sure all areas that would be covered by a basic bathing suit stay covered.

Label personal belongings with your name and put toys, personal belongings, cell phones, video games, etc., in your backpack during class times. Teachers may confiscate any such items until the end of classes should this policy be violated.

Students aged 10+ must assist their parents in carrying out cleaning duties.  Children nine and under may help with their parent’s supervision.

Each and every student should participate in clean up after lunch.

Students may not bring pocket knives or other weapons to Passport.

Students, regardless of age, are not allowed to carry medications at Passport.  This includes prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs like Tylenol, ibuprofen, or Claritin, supplements like omega-3 capsules or sleep aids, and vitamins, excluding powdered soft drink mixes like Gatorade Propel or Liquid IV.

Students may be in possession of emergency/rescue medication while at Passport. Emergency/rescue medications are those that must be administered within ten (10) minutes of the identification of need (asthma inhalers, epi-pens, etc.). Any child carrying emergency/rescue medication MUST be able to self-administer and be responsible for keeping their medications secure and away from other children.
