Passport Values Statement
Passport to Learning Values and Mission Statement
Passport to Learning is a secular progressive homeschool cooperative dedicated to creating an educational community that advances the ideals of social justice, celebrates LGBTQIA+ identities, establishes a safe and welcoming environment for neurodivergent learners and their adults, ensures the rights and dignity of transgender/nonbinary/gender-nonconforming people, and promotes scientific and historical literacy and critical thinking. We welcome all faith traditions, but expect Passport members to uphold and champion our core values through their class content, their interactions with other members of the organization, and by modeling these values for our children.
Racial Justice and Equity: We affirm that Black lives matter and are committed to supporting racial justice. We advocate for policies that repair historic and current injustices. We celebrate all family backgrounds and heritages, and believe that a cooperative rich in diversity strengthens our communities and enhances our children’s education.
LGBTQIA+ Rights: We believe that love, gender, and identity are diverse and beautiful. We work to ensure equal rights, representation, and safety for all LGBTQIA+ individuals, both within our organization and in the broader community.
Transgender, Nonbinary, and Genderfluid/Non-Conforming Protections: We stand unequivocally with transgender and non-binary individuals. We affirm their right to self-identify, access gender-affirming care, and live free from violence, discrimination, or erasure. We support our members in exploring their identities and using the pronouns and bathrooms that best fit their individual expression.
Safety for All Bodies and Neurotypes: We welcome and celebrate nontraditional learners including but not limited to members of the autistic, ADHD, learning-disabled, intellectually disabled, or physically disabled communities. We champion solutions, accommodations, and valuing the perspectives different neurotypes and physicalities bring to our community. We will do our very best to accommodate different types of learners.
Educational Literacy: We promote scientific literacy and support the teaching of evolution as a foundational scientific theory. We reject pseudoscience and ideologies that deny evidence-based knowledge. We promote historical literacy and champion the critical need for diverse representation in providing students with a fuller understanding of humanity.
The safety and comfort of our membership body is of paramount importance. To maintain the safety of our space, membership shall be open to those who champion these values and contingent upon upholding the values of this charter during all Passport activities and in all interactions with our communities.
